Frequently asked questions

+Who is Care by Cara for?

Care by Cara is for older adults who would benefit from companionship, emotional reassurance and practical home support. This includes people who feel lonely or isolated, people who are less confident getting out, people who would simply enjoy regular companionship, and people living with Alzheimer's or dementia who may benefit from a familiar companion.

+Do I need to have dementia or Alzheimer's?

No. Care by Cara is also for older people who are simply spending too much time alone or would enjoy regular company and practical support.

+Will the same person come every time?

Yes. As an owner-led service, your visits are provided by Cara, giving you the consistency and reassurance of getting to know the same person.

+How long are visits?

The planned minimum visit is two hours. This supports the Care by Cara promise of meaningful, unhurried time.

+How much does it cost?

The rate is £30 per hour with a two-hour minimum, making the minimum booking £60.

+What areas do you cover?

Oldham, Saddleworth, Royton, Mossley and Stalybridge, subject to availability and practical travel time.

+Can you keep my family updated?

Yes, if the client consents. The type and frequency of updates can be agreed at the start.

+Do you provide personal care?

Care by Cara currently provides companionship and practical home support. Personal care, nursing and medical services are not currently provided.

+Can you support somebody living with Alzheimer's or dementia?

Care by Cara can offer familiar companionship, emotional reassurance and practical home support to people living with Alzheimer's or dementia, subject to an initial conversation to make sure the service is appropriate. This is not medical treatment, nursing or personal care, and somebody does not need Alzheimer's or dementia to use Care by Cara.

+What happens before the first visit?

Start with a free, no-obligation conversation. If the service appears suitable, we arrange an initial assessment to understand the person's routines, interests, preferences, support needs and what matters most to them.

+What if Care by Cara is not suitable for the support we need?

I will be open and honest. If the person's needs are outside the service's scope or cannot be supported safely, I will explain this rather than accepting work that is not appropriate.
